UK IMC Mir Topics

This is somewhere to document requests for topics to be set up and agreements on the setting up of new topics on the www.indymedia.org.uk site.

Topic Types

You can see lists of the 3 types of topics here:

Major Reports

actions, these are specific to a year.

Subjects

topics (this link is to the list on the Sheffield page since there isn't a frag id for the fromt page for this list).

Kollectives

regions (this link is to the list on the Sheffield page since there isn't a frag id for the fromt page for this list).

Major Reports (/en/actions/) are created more often than Kollectives (/en/regions/) and Subjects (/en/topics/) and in March 2005 there was a proposal for a process for creating them, a set of criteria for action topics:

1. It has to be a subject / action that has a date / time, the actions topics are archived by year.
2. There has to have been at least one UK feature on the topic.
3. It has to be a subject / action that it is expected will generate a lot of articles.

The process above is not strictly followed -- topics such as Mayday 2006 have been created before there has been a feature article for this topic.

To create a Major Report Topic, log into admin, click on Super-user functions, click on Topics, look at how existing topics are set up, then click on add. The Mir name = the title and the Mir description = the description and the Mir filename = last bit of the URL, eg mayday and the Mir Name of startpage template in etc/producer = topicpage.template and finally the Mir archive url = actions/2006. After creating the new page, hit navigate.generate and topicstartpage.generate on the 'advanced page' linked to from the admin start.

After a new topic is created or one is renamed, or a description of a topic is edited then the majorreports.inc file ('edit include files' from admin start page) will need editing to update the Major Reports box on the front page, get the HTML for the items for this from this HTML fragment: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/navigation.newactions.html To regenerate this fragment run navigation.generate (from the 'advanced page' linked to from the admin start page), this should be done after a topic is added or a topic title or description is changed.

Proposed Topics

Please add proposed topics including links to the emails proposing them to the table below. When they have been agreed move them to the section below and when they have been set up move to the created topics section.

Agreed Topics

Topics that have been agreed but not yet implemented, please move them once they have been created to the section below.

Unagreed Topics

Topics that have been suggested but there wasn't consensus on.

Created Topics

Topic that have been created, please list the latest at the top.
